As promised, here's some of my beginning 3D work from spring 2007! These were just some props I decided on making for our game that semester, Eyn. I modeled them in Maya and did the textures in Photoshop from scratch -- it was good practice, the texturing, but I think I'll begin using photographs as a base when needed!
I was particularly pleased with the sign post, myself.
The following are a bunch of concept sketches I did for our 3D Game Art class last spring; it was slated to be a strategy/tactical RPG along the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea. We titled it Eyn.
In order:
- Rough sketch for a mage class
- Page full of rough sketches, idea of a Great Tree, shaman class, birds
- Rough sketch of a princess/noble character
- Rough sketch of a mage/healer class
- Same mage/healer design, watercolor over a sketch
I did all of the 2D assets for the game as well; here are some of them!
In order:
- World map
- Title screen
- Character icons (the models were by my team mates, not me; I just took screencaps and adjusted them)
- Menu boxes
I'm going to shift through my files and post some of my 3D work as well, just you wait and see!
Okay, so this whole daily posting thing still isn't quite working out, but I'll just keep at it anyway!
So I just got done scanning the latest watercolor painting I've finished for this semester. It's fairly large -- I had to scan it in eight parts!
This semester I started off doing paintings inspired by creation stories from different religions/cultures, but it wasn't working out so well. So I decided to do something similar to last semester's humans & plant series -- humans & animals! Only with a mythological slant to it to still tie in what I was doing before.
I had the idea of Hermes in mind for this one, but I wanted to do something a little different -- so, pretty tropical bird wings instead of the normal white! I really love the wing a whole lot; I'm going to do some more feathers and wings in my future paintings.
Concerning the digital work? Photoshop has been giving me all sorts of hell, and keeps crashing while I work on it. This doesn't exactly keep me very enthusiastic about working on it, but soon, soon! I'll get back into it.
I still plan to scan my older watercolors as well, so look forward to that!
I missed my post yesterday because I was so incredibly busy all day, and once I got home, I crashed on the sofa and watched Monster (which is, by the way, quite good) until I fell asleep.
So to make up for it, I'll do a double post today! Posting from my office at work currently; I'll post again when I get home with some more juicy art stuffs.
It seems I was put in charge of making the invitations to our watercolor group show that's coming up at the end of November. I finally just finished making them -- there wasn't a whole lot involved in designing it, as everyone already decided that they wanted them to look like our watercolor t-shirts we got back in August. My time as a communication design major at least taught me a few things, as I did have a bit of fun organizing the information on the back.
If you're in the Dallas area, you should definitely think about coming! It'll be great. There's free food!
Oh hey there. I'm coming down sick. It's not exactly fun, but I'm making the most of my time at home and cleaning and doing some art. Like more progress on this!
I started roughing in the background (I'm thinking woodsy!), and I added in some more details and refined existing things. I'm having some trouble with Photoshop, so my progress is slowing down, but overall I'd say I've only spent a handful of hours on the digital work. Definitely getting faster!
I figured I'd start scanning in and uploading some of my previous watercolor pieces from last year. I wind up scanning them in multiple pieces, since they don't fit on the scanner, and it's not exactly easy to combine all of them into one viewable image. I'll try doing one a day; I've got three of them hanging on my wall currently and a few stuffed in my portfolio from the past. I've also finished some work for my current watercolor class that I'd like to scan in as well, but it's currently hanging up in the beginning watercolor studio.
So, here's number one!
I originally painted this horizontally, as shown, but I kind of like it vertically as well, which is how it's currently hanging on my wall.
My focus on this series was combining human parts with plant elements. Foot, meet fern! This was around the middle of the semester, when I started loosening up. I do so love the colors and layering. And the red is really beautiful in person.
So, here I am, a new blog, a new start, a new day. I've got accounts at a few different blogging/journalling outlets that I'm going to update all with the same daily stuff, so watch out!
Here's a sketch I decided to practice my digital skills with. She's my awesome draenei hunter on World of Warcraft, which I'm not even playing anymore. Ah well. I like her pudgy face a lot. Looking at it now, I can see some wrongs with the sketch, but I really like the overall feeling in it.
